Day 1 International outbound flight
Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Cape Town.
Day 2 Cape Town
An Audley representative and your private driver will meet you at the airport, before you're driven to your accommodation, around half an hour away depending on traffic and where you're staying. Spend the rest of the day relaxing or exploring the city. You could take a stroll along the V&A Waterfront, which is lined with trendy shops, cafés and restaurants. We also recommend a visit to the peaceful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, where you can see a wide variety of local flora.
Day 3 Cape Town
Enjoy a tour of Cape Town's main highlights with a local guide, including the Houses of Parliament, the 17th-century Castle of Good Hope (South Africa's oldest building), the lively market at Greenmarket Square and Table Mountain, where you'll take a cable car to the summit for sweeping views over the city and ocean. Afterwards stop at Bo Kaap, home to the Cape Malay community, to admire the cobbled streets and brightly painted houses. This afternoon, we recommend catching the boat over to Robben Island, where Mandela spent much of his imprisonment. A former inmate leads tours of the old prison for an interesting insight into life on the island.
Day 4 Cape Town
Spend the day exploring the wild, rugged coastline of the Cape Peninsula in a small group, led by a knowledgeable guide. You'll visit Cape Point, South Africa's most southwesterly point, the jackass penguin colony at Boulders Beach and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, where you can see a wide range of local flora as well as several species of antelope, baboons and varied birdlife. You will have ample opportunity to take photographs throughout the trip, and you pass through several pretty towns and villages where you may wish to purchase lunch.
Day 5 Cape Town
Today you join a small group tour to explore the Cape Winelands, visiting the three main wine towns of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl and passing through rolling countryside scattered with vineyards. Your first stop is Stellenbosch, South Africa's second-oldest town, where you can admire the Cape Dutch architecture. Sample the local wines, coupled with chocolates that complement their taste. You'll then move on to Franschhoek, the country's culinary capital, for more wine tasting at one of the estates. Your final wine tasting is in Paarl, which is set at the foot of dramatic granite domes. You will then be driven the two hours back to Cape Town.
Day 6 Vumbura Concession
This morning your driver will take you back to the airport in time for your two and a half hour flight to Maun in Botswana. On arrival, you will board a light aircraft for a direct 35-minute flight to the private Vumbura Concession. You will be met at the airstrip by your private driver and guide and driven the short distance to your camp or lodge — depending on the water levels and where you're staying, the journey may include a short boat ride. On arrival, you may wish to spend the rest of the day relaxing at your camp, sipping on a sundowner in the boma area. Alternatively, join an afternoon or night game drive for your first glimpse of the area's wildlife.
Day 7 Vumbura Concession
Enjoy a full day of game viewing around the concession. Morning and afternoon game drives give you the chance to spot big game such as elephant, lion and giraffe, while bush walks with an expert guide allow you to see and learn more about the smaller creatures that can be found here, from reptiles to insects and birds. Night drives provide an opportunity to see and hear nocturnal species such as honey badgers, bush babies and even leopard.
Day 8 Vumbura Concession
Spend another day on safari in Vurumba. We highly recommend joining a boat safari or mokoro trip on the water, where you may spot crocodiles, hippo and a variety of birds, including bright little bee-eaters, crakes and pygmy geese. Floating along the water and through the reeds is incredibly peaceful and your guide will help point out the passing wildlife. You may also wish to go on another game drive to tick off any species you've yet to see — wild dog, cheetah and African wildcat are all found here.
Day 9 Victoria Falls
Today you'll be driven back to Vurumba's airstrip, where you'll board a light aircraft for the hour and a half flight to Kasane Airport. On arrival, your private driver will meet you for the two-hour journey to your accommodation. Along the way, you'll cross the Zambezi River by speedboat, entering Zambia. Here, another car will be waiting to take you onto your accommodation in Livingstone. You can spend the rest of the day relaxing or exploring the town. We could also arrange for you to join a guided sunset river cruise to see and learn about Zambezi wildlife, including birds, hippo and crocodiles.
Day 9 Victoria Falls
Today you pay a visit to the mighty Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Gazing out over the expanse of water, you can hear its roar and feel the spray as it crashes into the crevasse. The falls are part of the Mosi O Tunya National Park, which also offers opportunities for viewing wildlife such as giraffe, zebra and impala on game drives. You may also wish to explore nearby villages to learn about the local culture, or pay a visit to Livingstone Museum.
Day 10 Victoria Falls
Another day to enjoy Victoria Falls and the surrounding area. You could take a guided canoe trip along the river, try a spot of fishing or browse a local craft market for some hand-crafted souvenirs. A helicopter or microlight flight over the falls is a different way to experience this natural spectacle, and an impressive way to end your trip, as you can get a real sense of scale from the air.
Day 11 International return flight
Today your private driver will pick you up for the 35-minute journey to Livingstone Airport. They will assist with your bags and check in before you board your onward flight.
Day 13 International return flight
