Cape Town, Seychelles & Mauritius – 3 Top Wedding & Honeymoon Destinations

It makes perfect sense if you are planning a destination wedding to also honeymoon in the same place. Africa is a great country to do this and offers a lot of choice with many wonderful wedding venues in beautiful, romantic locations and plenty of fabulous places to spend your honeymoon.

Here are three of my favourites.

Cape Town, South Africa

Situated on the western tip of South Africa, Cape Town is a truly special location to get married and also a great place to spend time on honeymoon. It has breath-taking scenery, wonderful venues as well as world famous wines and cuisine.

A short distance from the city there are other options couples should consider. The West Coast has some lovely scenic coastal villages which have a more rustic vibe with lots of delicious fresh seafood and beautiful beaches.

Then there are the Cape Winelands which has lots of beautiful wine estates in fabulous settings that make idyllic wedding venues. Outdoor ceremonies are held under gazebos, thatched tents or under the shade of a beautiful old tree. Many of the estates and farms in the area provide extremely comfortable accommodation and there are also some lovely guest houses. To top off the whole experience you will be treated to seriously good wines and delicious food.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy including hiking, whale watching, spending time with penguins and seals on the beach and sightseeing.

I would say that Cape Town is the perfect destination for couples who enjoy being active and have a taste for the finer things in life!

Seychelles

This beautiful archipelago in the Indian Ocean, consists of 115 islands just off Africa’s east coast and is perhaps the most romantic place in the world. It certainly is the perfect paradise location for a dream wedding. The islands have beautiful white sandy beaches fringed with lush tropical vegetation, warm, clear turquoise waters, beautiful lagoons and breath taking scenery. And if that wasn’t enough to tempt you the Seychelles has a warm tropical climate all year round.

Seychelles is home to the unique Vallee de Mai which is believed to be the original “Garden of Eden” and as a result they have become known as the “Islands of Love”. No wonder it is such a popular destination for couples!

There is a huge choice of stunning luxury resorts and hotels each offering a variety of wedding packages.

And, once you are married you can head off to explore the other islands, or stay put and enjoy a relaxing honeymoon. The Seychelles has something for everyone with the larger resorts on Mahe Island catering to the more active.  The small secluded islands are perfect for those wanting an idyllic hideaway and the hidden coves on Praslin and La Digue provide tranquillity and privacy. Island hopping is another option and good way to really get a feel for the place.

Mauritius

Another island paradise, Mauritius is situated in the Indian Ocean off the south east coast of Africa, and due east of Madagascar. It has a wonderful climate, pristine white sandy beaches fringed with palm trees, beautiful warm, clear, turquoise sea, lush tropical vegetation and stunning scenery. Having once been at the crossroads of the African and Arabian trade routes Mauritius also has a diverse cultural and colourful history.

The hotels are situated in great locations, perfect for a wedding ceremony whether on a beach or in a beautiful garden.

After the wedding we recommend couples stay on the island for their honeymoon as there is plenty to explore and enjoy. Being a small island with an amazing variety of hotels, it lends itself well to staying in a few places. You can choose from all-inclusive honeymoon resorts, private beach villas, mountain retreats and unique bubble lodges.

And, there is something for everyone.  For couples in search of adventure you can drive across island where you’ll see Hindu temples rising out of the sugar cane plantations or take the historic tea route visiting plantations along the way. Activities include hiking, zip wiring, biking and there are some wonderful golf courses.  Mauritius has a wonderful and varied marine life which you can enjoy snorkelling, diving,  taking a boat trip or hiring one.

In addition, Mauritius boasts a great night life, fine dining and shopping. It really does tick every box!
