City Destinations for Food Lovers

Celebrating Valentine’s Day usually involves going out with your loved one to eat somewhere special so, with that in mind, we thought it would be fun to put together a blog highlighting a few of The Honeymoon Fixer’s favourite city destinations for food lovers in Europe and further afield.

Osaka

For anyone visiting Japan you must include Osaka in your itinerary.  This exciting city is often referred to as “Japan’s kitchen” due to its reputation for being a foodie paradise.  Head to Dotonbori, an area known for its wonderful variety of street foods and is a really authentic way to experience some of their most popular dishes.

Kuala Lumpar

Malaysia’s vibrant capital city offers a mix of Chinese, Indian and Malay inspired cuisine. Spending at least two nights here will give you time to indulge in some top class dining before heading off to explore the rest of the country.   One evening we’d recommend booking yourself onto one of the city’s evening food tours.

Bologna

This north Italian city is famous for its art, history and rich culinary heritage.  Thanks to its amazing cuisine Bologna is fondly known as “La Grassa”, meaning The Fat One!  This beautiful medieval city is truly a feast for all the senses.

Lisbon

Lisbon is situated on the Tagus River estuary and is Portugal’s main port and largest city.  It is incredibly picturesque with winding cobbled streets, ancient ruins and white domed cathedrals.  Being situated right on the coast Lisbon has fantastic seafood.  The city is bursting with great places to eat and you’ll be able to sample a wide variety of dishes from the traditional, like the famous Pastel del Nata, to the more contemporary.

Munich

Famous for it’s Oktoberfest, the world’s largest beer festival, this Bavarian city has lots to see and do.  Anyone who enjoys good hearty food, such as schnitzel, weisswurst, pork knuckle, pretzels, cured meats, cheese, will love Munich.  While you are there is worth paying a visit to the Viktualienmarkt, the city’s largest open-air market which has a beer garden in the middle where you can enjoy produce from around the country.

Bergen

Situated on the west coast of Norway, in the heart of the fjords, Bergen is a UNESCO World Heritage city and a European city of culture.  Thanks to the abundance of locally grown produce and seafood, Bergen is renowned for its top quality cuisine and has some of the best restaurants in the country.
